A few weeks ago I was driving home and noticed that somebody had left out a number of leftover granite pieces from a kitchen remodel. People in Seattle do that frequently: dump a bunch of stuff outside with a free sign and let folks browse through the offerings. Do they do that near you? I find it's rather convenient although I suppose if one were to do it regularly the neighbors might become annoyed.

Anyway, this lovely piece of granite was discarded when they cut the sink from the surrounding counter top. You'll notice that it's sink-shaped. Which makes it perfect for rolling out pie dough or baking bread/pizza in the oven.

So I decided to give it a whirl. Apple pies for dessert! Since they were mini apples, I thought that mini-apple pies were a brilliant idea.

Actually, it was a lousy idea. So much more work required in rolling out six pie crusts rather than two.

And our mini apples? A pain to peel.
Since the apples were verging on bordering between tart and atomically tart, I decided to wing it on the ingredients, adding honey until I was able to consume the filling without grimacing. To the honey I added a small handful of flour, some lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and a pinch of salt. I'm not big on measuring. It's hard to go overboard with any of those ingredients so I wasn't too concerned about specific amounts. And don't forget that hefty dollop of butter right before you place the upper crust.
The wee little guys, ready for the oven.

Ta da! Mini apple pies, with mini apples.

Don't try it at home, folks. Too much time required.
