Buying an old house has advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages are easy to name: old wiring, non-plumb doors, peeling linoleum, etc. We knew what we were getting into when we purchased the house.
But every now and again there are some delightful surprises that are uncovered as we slowly peel back the layers. The chicken coop foundation was one such surprise. The raspberry bushes were another. The beautiful wooden treads on the stairs were a third. And today we have another: this sweet brick walkway between the house and the coop, buried under a few inches of soil. Just waiting to be unearthed.
Character. Old houses have character aplenty.
Yesterday the weather was perfect for digging.
How about some afternoon rain sprinkles to rinse it off?
