This weekend we took another trip down the Santa Ana River bike trail. One of these days we're going to make it all the way to the ocean. It rained this weekend and there was a bit of water in the river. We ride past a golf course that is primarily constructed within the flood channel of the river and on Sunday it was flooded. In California, it's actually fairly safe to put stuff like golf courses, parks, and parking lots in the actual river channel since we only get a good rain three or four times a year. They typically just close those things down during flood warnings. I think my greatest concern was the application of pesticides on the grass that is actually grown in the golf course flood channel. Those would immediately be washed downstream and into the ocean. That is when you definitely don't want to go surfing in Huntington.
