Lady Liberty:
For some reason, whenever I think of the Statue of Liberty, I think of the French. It was the French, after all, who gifted it to the United States as a lasting memorial to our desire for independence following the Revolutionary War (a war that we could not have won without the significant support of that country).
And thinking of the French always reminds me of the US's current disdain for France in their refusal to support the war in Iraq. And our subsequent change in the name of fried potatoes from "French Fries" to "Freedom Fries". Very ironic, don't you think?
I've heard that Muslims changed the name of those tasty baked goods called "Danishes" to "The roses of the Prophet Mohammed" in protest of the anti-Muslim cartoons that were recently published in that country. I'm assuming it must be shorter in Arabic.
